Current Finance Minister

The current Finance Minister of India is Nirmala Sitharaman. She has been in office since 31 May 2019, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Nirmala Sitharaman is India’s first full-time female Finance Minister and has presented multiple consecutive budgets in Parliament, including her ninth budget on 1 February 2026 

Role and Responsibilities

• Formulating the fiscal policy of India
• Presenting the annual Union Budget in Parliament
• Overseeing taxation, public finances, and government expenditure
• Supervising allied departments such as the Department of Public Enterprises 
• Being a member of key security and finance-related cabinet committees, such as the Cabinet Committee on Security and the National Security Council
